Recently, we have been playing Jomo Karuta in English class to celebrate the New Year. We play in both Japanese and English.  

新年をお祝いするために、最近の英語の授業では上毛かるたをやっています。英語と日本語でします。

My favorite card is “Na”; Lined cedar trees in Annaka remind us of Nakasendo. I like it because I like walking! In English, we call 杉(sugi) cedar trees.

わたしの一番好きなカードは「な」です。「中仙道しのぶ、安中杉並木」

理由は歩くのが好きですから！英語で杉はcedar trees (セダー・トリーズ)と言います。

I also like Shimonita’s card. I wish Nanmoku had its own card too!

下仁田町のカードも好きです。南牧村にもカードがあったらいいですね！

Playing Karuta with everyone is lots of fun!

みんなと一緒にかるたをするのはとても楽しいです！
